» TRAINER WORKSHOPS AGRICULTURAL WORLD

1)  SELF-CONTROL OF YOUR EMOTIONS CAN BE LEARNED
   What kinds of emotions?

"We cannot speak to him, without him losing his temper!"
"I make decisions on a whim, and then I regret it later!"

Emotions are fundamental to our lives and essential to our survival and happiness. However, poor management of emotions can result in suffering for oneself and for others, as well as negative consequences for the business.

During a workshop, dealing with control of emotions, the following aspects will be explored: the role of emotions, the consequences of poor emotional management and the approach to be taken to increase positive emotions and to reduce negative ones.

2)  HOW TO MANAGE OUR STRESS QUOTA

"He sold his farm, he threw everything away! He couldn't take it anymore. It appears, he was exhausted!"

Don't be disillusioned. Stress is omnipresent and it is far from sparing the agricultural world! As in all spheres of society, psychological distress is increasing and causing important damage to the physical and psychological health of administrators and employees as well as to the financial wellbeing of businesses.

With the use of both humour and emotions, the participants are brought to realize the impact of stress in their lives. The causes, the symptoms and the effects of stress, as well as effective management strategies are discussed. The main characteristics of people who are stressed out and candidates for burnout will be discussed. Finally, reflections regarding our agricultural practices are also on the menu. More than 10,000 producers and representatives of the agricultural world in Quebec, Ontario and New-Brunswick have already attended these stress management conferences.

3)  COMMUNICATION: SPEAK SO AS TO BE UNDERSTOOD

We should make sure that we understand the other person, before trying to be understood.

"When I speak to him, he never understands a thing."

It's true that not everybody is gifted in communication skills. Indeed, without such a skill, relationships will not be outstanding. Nevertheless, this essential skill can be acquired.

Using a simple and amusing approach, the conference related to this topic exposes the bases of communication, the obstacles to be avoided and the consequences of inadequate communication. Finally, it offers simple and effective tools to improve communication on a day-to-day basis in intimate, family and work relationships.

4)  A BUSINESS DEAL OR A PACT FROM HELL?

"It was going to be the greatest deal, but now it's become a pact from hell..."

Why do "good" business deals, change with time into pacts from hell? Maybe we do not analyze carefully all the important and essential facts...

In a business project, we don't have to limit ourselves to techno-economic considerations and profitability factors. It is vital to also take into account our personal values, our resources, our limits and our goals in life, as well as those of our mates and our families. This workshop topic is directed to all who have the desire to stay in business and to be happy so doing.

5)   EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE: EMOTIONS AT THE HEART OF MANAGEMENT

It is not enough to have knowledge or to be intelligent to succeed in life. It is also necessary to be emotionally competent.

"No one can tolerate him anymore! The employees are leaving because of the boss's everlasting grumpy personality."

Who said that in business there was no place for feelings? It is important to realize that healthy emotional management is essential for intelligent handling of business affairs. Studies show that the best administrators are the ones who are the most emotionally competent.

Management and feelings are inseparable. The agricultural administrator who is aware and in charge of his emotions, makes better decisions, accomplishes his projects more satisfactorily and is more aware of the needs of others. Aptly and with humour, this conference topic illustrates the role of emotional intelligence and its impact on the profitability of the business and the supervision of the staff. Knowledge of ones-self, self-management, the capacity to auto-motivate and interpersonal relations are decisive elements for personal and professional success.
